Mission
Leadership Vestavia Hills is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to
enhance the quality of leadership in Vestavia Hills through networking relationships and educational

- Leadership Vestavia Hills class participants receive a common knowledge base with which they can channel their leadership skills.
- Leadership Vestavia Hills class participants should be from all segments [geographic, political, social, economic, racial and demographic] of the city.
- Leadership Vestavia Hills class experiences should broaden graduates in order to better prepare them for future leadership positions within the community.
- Leadership Vestavia Hills recognizes that higher expectations yield higher results.
- Leadership Vestavia Hills must continue to grow and change.
Goals
- Leadership Vestavia Hills will provide an on-going stream of quality leaders to move the community forward.
- Leadership Vestavia Hills will be the "go-to" group to facilitate open and honest discussions of community initiatives and issues.
- Leadership Vestavia Hills will provide an active mechanism to place its graduates into key community leadership roles.
- Leadership Vestavia Hills will be a household name via an exemplary public relations program.
Strategies
- We will ensure that all of the board members understand the responsibilities of being a non-profit board member and are held accountable for those responsibilities.
- The Board will ensure accountability through timely, accurate, and complete reporting of all financial matters, resulting in exemplary stewardship of financial resources.
- We will communicate and celebrate internally and externally the positive results achieved by class participants, graduates, and the organization as a whole.
- The class will be based on presenting relevant content, developing sustainable relationships, and enforcing sound policies.
- We will develop a plan to identify a large pool of highly qualified, interested, and diverse applicants; to select the top candidates for the class; and to consider financial assistance for applicants.
- We will form a lasting partnership with each graduate, maintain knowledge of their activities, and promote their participation in the community.
Participants
Participants will form a core of citizens who live or work in Vestavia Hills.
They will become informed, motivated project leaders working together and
benefiting from the varied backgrounds of the group. This will provide
groundwork for cooperation on existing and future community issues.
Each year, the participants will learn through planned interactive experiences
to broaden their communication and problem solving skills. These learning
experiences will form the basis for a distinctive group identity unlike any
existing leadership development program in our community.
Programs
Once a month, from September to May, participants will attend a day-long
session on specific high-priority topics. Participants will be challenged
to increase their knowledge and become actively involved in problem solving
through dialogue with existing state and community leaders. Through this
process, they will gain valuable new perspectives.
